Digitizing tablets seem to be the favorite input device among digital artists in general. These tablets allow artist to simulate drawing and freehand strokes directly into 2D art software. The idea is to simulate drawing or painting. Current tablets simulate upwards of 1024 levels of pressure to better simulate a more realistic painting experience. These tablets are nice for simulating the illustrative experience in a digital environment, but they take allot of practice to use. The effects and feel of the table differs greatly from the resistance of pencil or oil paints that many artists find so comfortable. The industry-leading brand for digital tables is Wacom .
