Project Offset
Project Tile: Project-Offset (working title) Company: Offset software
Offset software (at the time consisting of 3 people) first started work on Project-Offset in ____ with the intent on creating the first truely epic next gen first person shooter game based in a large scale fantasy world. At the time of the projects conception the team (consisting of -Sam McGrath, Travis Stringer and Trevor Stringer-) was completely self funded and as such working on an extremely modest budget. It was only after a year and a half worth of working on the project that they released the first previews of the game that they had been creating. It was these first teaser movies that sparked the explosion of media attention that now surrounds the project. After these first videos where released and as the comotion surrounding the project grew, more and more people jumped on the development bandwagon. Currently the development team consists of over 100 people.
The game is being built on the foundation of the Offset engine that is being developed from the ground up for the game by offset software. The offset engine is a truely next generation engine, something that is overly apparent after watching the teaser trailers, with support for shader model 3 and almost graphical eye candy people expect from a next gen engine, including full normal mapping support, virtual displacement mapping, real time reflections / refractions, full hdri support, post processing effects such as motion blur etc. Also demonstrated in the currently released teasers is some of the workflow involved in working with the offset engine and the suplied editor, and for the most part it seems simple and intuitive with a node based material editor (ala Maya) and a node based event driven particle editor (ala 3ds max) The offset engine is also reportedly the only real time graphics engine at this point in time that the Agea Physx chip has been intergrated with 100%, Though this leaves open the question what limitations will be placed on players who do not have this hardware installed.
