Portal Talk:Hardware

There's quite a lot of sentences beginning with "I personally..." and so forth. They should ideally be removed to maintain the classic NPOV philosophy. Since a lot of work obviously went into this article, I don't particularly feel like chopping it out myself just like that though. //JamesMK

As the author notes it is a bit dated, particularly things have changed quite a bit as regards both Linux and OS X. I'll try and update it a bit.

Whilst this is a great set of information, it does not belong on the hardware portal page (which is meant to be an index) nor does it belong all in the same place - for example the Photoshop conciderations should be an article unto itself (Photoshop:Hardware Conciderations perhaps) , and linked to from the photoshop page itself as well as perhaps this page (or a Sub-Portal like Portal:Hardware Conciderations which could list a series of similar articles)

Edited numerous spelling mistakes.

Yesh, this is more like a Gigantic article than a portal. I was about to add an entry on Vicon. --Mummey 01:22, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

I found this article rather useless. It's a lengthy writeup on outdated basics that does not realy adress what most people ask for in the CG Talk Hardware forum. I would prefer to see this article replaced with smaller chunks of more focused and up to date info. Of course i would add my share to that, but currently up to date info would simply be invisible in this huge mess. PS: I think we can safely leave the OS and HW basics to Wikipedia and just cover the more current stuff that is interesting to CG users. --Srek 09:25, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

So I made some changes to it...

What do you think??? --Mummey 21:34, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

The subportals are a good idea and usefull, but the main problem remains. I again tried to read the complete article again, but it is so full of misinformation that i realy had a hard time. Everyone relying on this writeup for information will be seriously busted. My vote is for deleting everything but the subportals and start anew. Anyone against this? Carina? --Srek 19:50, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Changes on January 21.

I removed some outdated or incorrect information and replaced it by (hopefully) more accurate and up to date stuff.
My main concern now is CPUs and Memory since they are currently not covered in a way that is usefull for those who post questions in the Hardware forum. I gather helping those people is the main idea behind this wiki page?--Srek 21:08, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

I think we're definitely on the right track here. What remains of the article information should probably be refined, then put into their respective areas. --Mummey 00:15, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
