Houdini
[edit]
Overview
Houdini is the leading procedural 3D animation solution developed and maintained by Side Effects Software. The comprehensive feature set includes modeling, rigging, animation, particle effects, dynamics, compositing, integrated rendering, and more. Houdini has been used in over 200 feature live and animated films.

Procedural Animation
While Houdini has traditional interfaces, its underlying architecture is uniquely procedural. The procedural approach is good for quick change revisions and animated effects.

Houdini Assets
Houdini procedural networks can be nested, wrapped with a custom GUI and saved as Houdini Digital Assets (HDA). HDAs are referenced by animation (shot) files. Any updates to HDAs are automatically propogated to the animation files.
