Half-Life 2
Half-Life 2 is a first person shooter (FPS), based on an alternate earth where creatures called the Combine have invaded from another dimension and taken over. This is a direct sequel which carries on the events that happened after the conclusion of Half-Life. You play the unlikely hero Dr. Gordan Freeman (a theoretical physicist), who is a pawn at the hand of a mysterious organisation represented by the elusive blue-suited individual only known as the G-Man. Thrust into events, you must help the humans take back their world.
Half-Life 2 is developed by Valve Corporation and utilizes the Source Engine, developed by the same company. It also incorporates a modified Havok physics engine.
The game was a fairly revolutionary step in the industry in terms of graphics technology, gameplay and distribution, as Half-Life 2 was the first game by Valve to be distributed both in box and downloadable content. Utilising the STEAM distribution format, users can download and register the entire product and it's updates online. This has given rise to Valve's new strategy of episodic content, allowing users to download and play chapters of a game over time, rather than wait longer for a whole game release.
