Geri's Game

Geri's game is a 4 minutes Pixar short film dated 1997. It was written and directed by Jan Pinkava. In this small masterpiece, Pixar manages to achieve new standards of human and cloth animation, winning an Academy Award for Best Short Film as a result.

The story

An old man called Geri plays a chess game in the park...against himself. The "opponent" seems to be much cleverer, but at the last moment Geri has an idea to turn the tables and to win the game. Funny and cleverly constructed, Geri's game uses simple but effective storytelling tools to s make the audience understand which Geri they are looking at in every scene and to convey a sense of surrealism.

Curiosities:

-The character reappears as the toy fixer in Toy Story 2. -The cigar box containing the chess pieces is marked "Pt Richmond Hand Made Pixar Shorts". Point Richmond, California, is where the Pixar studios was located at the time of the release. -It was attached to the release of A Bug's life
