Final Fantasy
Overview
The Final Fantasy series is arguably the one of the most successful RPG series, and one of the longest living. The graphic progression presented from installment to installment has represented the industry standard at the time of publishing, so if nothing else, the series is a great indicator of where we have come from and how we got to where we are. Storyline through the episodes is externally unrelated, with the exclusion of typical RPG elements, but the underlying concepts, and characters tend to fall in the realm of existentialism, self-sacrifice, romance, self-actualization and personal growth. The game's greatest contribution to the industry may be a its anachronistic cumulative style and content, the open form which tends to be placed on the possibilities for aesthetic and content design has inspired a generation of gamers to hold such possibilities closer to a potential reality.
