Introduction

Anim8or is an always developing free 3d program which is easy to comprehend for beginning 3d artists. The anim8or community exists largely out of beginning artists that can use anim8or as a step-up to the major 3d programs.

Anim8or provides a very easy workspace but the modeling methods are very limited. It works with a seperate area to model than to render with, which is very convenient to oversee your project. Next to the modeling aspect, Anim8or can create animations sequences and has a very basic renderer.

The program is light in use so it is very well useable by artists with older pc's.

Community

The main Anim8or site Anim8or.com provides a free download of the program, some tutorials to get beginners started and a forum that is mainly used as a Question area.

The other Anim8or site Anim8or.org, also known as ReAnim8ed, is the Anim8or community where Anim8or users share their work and where contests are being held.

Anim8or also has a chat room: #anim8or on irc.slashnet.org.

Author

The program is written by Steven Glanville, a software engineer for NVidia. He is always working on improving anim8or, as a hobby and not for commercial purposes.

Supporting software

Anim8or users have programmed some supporting software that can be used in combination with Anim8or.

- AniTweak creates particle systems for use in Aim8or. Created by rounder. Download Anitweak

- Terranim8or makes animated terrains, clouds and oceans. Created by Leslie. Terranim8or

- Randomator adds randomly placed particles to an Anim8or file. Created by OutThere. Randomator

Scripting

Anim8or supports a scripting language currently called ASL or "Anim8or Scripting Language". ASL allows flexible controllers, scripted object modeling, and notably plugins. You can add new formats for file export and define new parametric shapes with ASL scripts.

The basics of using scripts is described in the Manual. The specifications of ASl can be found here
